Soon after Fatechand took over as president of the Panchayat, he was advised that all the societies registered under the Society Registration Act,1860, including the Panchayat have compulsorily to get registered under the recently enacted Maharastra Public Trust Act, 1950 (PTA). Although Fatechand expressed the view that the Panchayat was not a charitable trust and should be exempted from getting registered under the PTA his plea was not accepted. The Panchayat therefore had to be registered under the PTA even though it was not a charitable trust.
