Report on the Global Amils discussion
14/06/2008

Chandraban Ramchandani suggested that a good way to initiate a dialogue with global Amils would be for all the managing committe members to connect with the Amils they know globally and spread the message by word of mouth. The majority of members agreed that this would be a good way to start. Maya Shahani, convenor of the Global Amil Committee requested the members to send their lists with the Email addresses in a weeks time. Lal Mirchandanis daughter Sabina offered to volunteer her services for compiling the websites and Email addresses of Global Amils and circulating them to the members.Raju Jhangiani informed the members that his cousin Gobind Jhangiani based in New York had sent a list to Maya Shahani who confirmed the list was with her, and she was waiting for the Amil Panchayat website to be up and running so that we could all interact with the Amils living abroad. She also requested Ashok Thadani who is with the Hargobind Trust, to share his list of Global Amils with the Panchayat. Ashok was very forthcoming and said he would help us out as the Hargobind Trust was in contact with many non resident Amils.Asha Idnani who is working on the website said she would try her best to expedite matters. She also suggested that we go on the site of the British Broadcasting Corporation where Global Amils have requested a dedicated TV Channel for Sindhis as Sindhis have been displaced from their homeland and are scattered all over the Globe. This site has applications from over 6000 Sindhis and would be a good place for us to start our data bank.Indrani Malkani felt that for Amils to be interested in getting connected with each other, the Amil Panchayat should propagate a sense of pride in our community. If any Amil traveled anywhere in the world, he or she should talk about the history, culture and value of the Amil Community. She also gave the example of Dr. Indu Shahani who as the Sheriff of Mumbai was invited to Barbados and had promised to talk about Amils in the gatherings she was invited to in Barbados.Agreeing with this, Maya Shahani also added that the biggest incentive for young Amils who were setting up their businesses or careers would be if they saw value in the enormous networking base that could evolve once we are connected globally. There would be a mutual win win situation if we all reached out to each other and shared our strengths. Apart from business alliances, as far as matrimonial alliances went we could create a bigger data bank and help our children to find a suitable partner. The secretary Moti Malkani and the President Mohan Mirchandani endorsed the suggestions and the meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the chair.
